Rose was released by the Phillies three days after their World Series loss to the Baltimore Orioles in October 1983. Four months later Rose signed with the Expos as a free agent for $700,000. He was traded to the Reds for Tom Lawless on August 16, 1984 having played a total of 95 games for Montréal.
